I went here with my wife and right from the start I was turned off. We made reservations and still had to wait twenty minutes even though the restaurant was half empty. The waiter started off by reading a list of items they were out of, some of which included the reason I was there. It was getting late so we decided to stay and order other items. I ordered the seared ahi tuna which had the texture of being over cooked in a microwave. Then we ordered soup and the waiter informed us they were out of soup! Not one of the soups, but all of them! We went on to order a salad (which was tasty) and our main course (again tasty). When we were done with main course the waiter instantly asked if we wanted the bill (didn't even ask if we wanted coffee). We said no and that we would like to order their signature dessert, coconut ice cream. This was main reason we chose Formosa that night. We had been there before and ordered it and we were looking forward to enjoying it again. You'll never guess what the waiter told us..."sorry, we're out of it." That was it! I spoke with the owner and told him how disappointed I was with the whole experience. His very unprofessional response was they were very busy that day and that's the way it is. I was stunned. What prompted me write this is not so much that they had only half the menu available, but just before our waiter asked us if we wanted the bill, a waiter at another table offered his guests their ice cream and several other desserts. I couldn't help but think they just wanted us out because it was after ten. Go to another restaurant. There are several comparable ones in the area. Their food is ok but not put good enough to be treated like that. I'll never go back there again.

Upscale without the upscale prices. Very impressive for the area, great food and service. Make sure to try the Thai iced tea, it's to die for! Business casual and above, no jeans or tee shirts. I doubt they would turn you away, but you'd feel terribly out of place.

We went here because of the ratings and were not disappointed. Excellent decor and ambiance. Interesting and varied menu. Many entrees in the $12 range; 3 items at $28. We enjoyed an appetizer special, Seafood Ravioli - delicious. Curry Chicken and the Honey Mango Chicken were beautifully presented and had fantastic flavors. The coconut ice cream is made in-house and was dreamy - and I don't even like coconut. Very good service. A total delight except for the radio program American jazz background music which is definitely out of place in this setting.

Had a very delicious and refreshing Asian salad with Ginger dressing and basil and crisp bean sprouts. For the entree the curry filet mignon was cooked perfectly and went well with the fresh bell peppers and basil and steamed white rice. For dessert I had a fried banana that was crisp on the outside and gooey on the inside topped with a marvelous bananas foster-like brown sugar/butter sauce and peanuts with a homemade coconut ice cream gob. Comprehensive drink menu to go with dinner as well. Always a family favorite when I'm In town!

This is probably the *best* restaurant in NEPA... Amazing decor, very Asian... check out the ceiling. Great for dates, families, special occasions. Asian fusion food with incredible presentation. Everything on the menu is excellent. Service is very professional, top-notch. The servers are very attentive and knowledgeable. -It is a laid-back atmosphere, but don't sweatpants here. Dress nice. -Make sure you get reservations. -Very classy and tastefully done. -They have a bar, but it's small... this is more of an eating place rather than a hang out. -Their website is cheesy, don't let that fool you. -Great place to take someone from out of town.

At the minimum, our 15th time at Formosa & I'm finally writing a review! When I made reservations for mom's 80th, they told me to make sure I pointed her out to them when we arrived...how nice. We had a party of 7, mom & I arrived early to have a yummy Grey Goose dirty martini. The greeting we received from Wayne, Sherrie & Brad was so warm & inviting we ended up chatting for 5 minutes before we even thought about sitting. The apps we had included the lemon grass soup, fried calamari, spring rolls, steamed dumplings & the special shrimp raviolis topped with caviar in a sauce too good not to slurp! Difficult to choose between the calamari (have had it on 5 occasions, always cooked perfectly) & the dumplings...& the specials. Main course of Ginger Chicken, Veggie Pad Thai, Garlic Chicken, Ginger Shrimp and desserts of coconut ice cream & something chocolate (LOL, sorry wasn't paying attention) was delicious. Everyone in our group loved their meals. The atmosphere is casual; dress up or go in jeans...or have cocktails at the bar (thursday night live jazz band...our table loved it) & nosh on some apps. It's such a cool place. Not only was our server Brad wonderful, fun, charming & knew the menu inside out & backwards, but Wayne checked on us as well. And having Wayne as our server on previous occasions I was disappointed he wasn't serving us tonight but Brad pulled it off in spades, Wayne was marvelous, checking on us since it was such a special occasion and Sherrie is a total delight. Thank you all for making mom's 80th an event to remember with smiles & warm hearts.

Yikes! This review is purely on my first impression which was so bad I didn't stay. The moment I walked in with my mother the woman behind the counter stared intensely at us. I tried to smile to hint that she was being a little rude and nothing. No smile, no break in gaze. Then a man showed us to a table. He held the menu out and looked annoyed as my mother took her coat off and put down her purse. She noticed and said "sorry you can put that down if you want, I'm just getting settled. He placed it on the table without a single word. He spent another 10 minutes at our table clearing wine glasses with a miserable look on his face. When we brought it to their attention the man became very condescending. The woman said nothing and just stared. We left and went to Bazil...which was delicious and the service was vastly better.

The service here is very good and the food is ok. New -styled Asian food. Their soup and appetizer are super yummy. But I am not big fan for their salmon entree. I like the noodle. That seems like a Thai style restaurant. Definitely a good place for dating.

Went here for the first time tonight. We loved it. I had the shrimp pad Thai. My wife had the crab cakes with champagne saffron sauce. Both were excellent. Great service, too. The complete package.

Great service. Amazing food. I had the Pad Thai, which was fantastic, and my boyfriend had the Basil Filet Mignon, which was out of this world awesome - and unlike anything I've ever tasted. I really think this is the best restaurant in the area.

I was very impressed with the food, the establishment is a bit reserved but very comfortable. The staff puts a lot of effort to make sure you have everything you need. And as I stated when I started, the food was excellent (I had the vegetable tofu with red curry).

I wish 3.5 stars was an option. Our appetizer was delicious, but the two main courses were nothing to write home about. I feel like if we ordered something else, it could have changed the rating. I almost forgot, our waiter was great!

Finally got to visit Formosa - not sure what took me so long. It was later in the evening on a weekend, so we were able to walk right in and get a table. We sat in a booth in the dining room, which is stunning. The lighting and sound level were perfect (but as for the sound itself, which was the "Watercolors" station on Sirius... c'mon, it sounds like what they play on the Weather Channel during your local forecast). I started off with a Singha, and we split two appetizers - the spring rolls and the seafood lemongrass soup, and both were very good. The mussel in the soup was quite large. My entree selection was a special that evening, grilled shrimp on sugar cane skewers over rice and vegetables. It sounded better than it tasted, because I was actually expecting something a bit more zesty. To their credit, the waiter did suggest something else when I asked for something that would be both spicy and sweet. On that note, the service was excellent. They employ some foodservice veterans that I have also experienced at other fine establishments in the area and it really makes a difference. For dessert, I had a frozen limoncello flute which was delicious. I was also able to sample the coconut ice cream, which had awesome texture but the coconut flavor didn't really stand out. Next time, I'll try the caramelized pork chop or the curry duck. P.S. - their website sucks, don't let it fool you.

Awesome place. The food and drinks are very good. We had a spring roll appetizer that was the best I've ever had and I had the pad thi while my husband had a lamb dish. Although his was better I wouldn't hesitate to get mine again. The menu is large and most likely I will try something else when we return. I definitely recommend this place
